about

With her first two highly praised albums “Knees, Feet & The Parts We Don’t Speak Of” and “Doors” Ida Gard has placed herself as a strong contender for being the next big thing coming from small Denmark’s innovative and diverse music scene – a music scene that has turned out recent international breakthroughs like MØ, Lukas Graham, and Oh Land.
Now she’s releasing her third album “Womb”, inspired by the Swedish bestselling novel “Popular Music from Vittula”. Why “Womb”? Ida explains: “What I like about it is that it sounds like a "wroom!" or a "boom!" and that it is filled with both, physical and emotional energy. Also it's the one place on Earth that all humans are familiar with. No matter where or how they grew up.”

The initial album idea was to tell someone else’s story - the stories of the fictional characters from ”Popular Music From Vittula”. But in doing so, Ida ended up also telling her own story between the lines in a way that was less forced and thought through. “A very interesting and eye-opening experience”, she states. “I felt liberated in both the musical and lyrical expression.” “Womb” tells the story of growing up in the sometimes paralysing narrowness of a small village in the middle of nowhere but also the discovery of rock ’n’ roll music and the journey to freedom that listening to music can send you on. Knowing Ida, listeners can expect songs with no taboos with an incredible edginess and depth. But Ida wouldn’t be Ida, if the album wasn’t also offering lust for life, humour and true “rock’n’roll” spirit. “Womb” is a trip to the past – a retrospective to a soul going through puberty and a personal liberation told by a voice that could hardly be more expressive and emotional. Those who love rock ‘n’ roll that’s sexy, sophisticated, blunt and witty at the same time, will love joining to go on this musical trip with Ida Gard.
